SomaLogic has a technology platform that houses one of the largest clinical proteomic databases in the world. The company uses this database and their machine learning and bioinformatics to transform this data into quantitative risk assessments and reliable physiological, lifestyle and disease insights across many different human diseases and conditions. They also license their technology to researchers to accelerate biomarker discovery, diagnostics, drug discovery and health management.

A tangible example of their work is a blood test they developed for cardiac disease. In short, SomaLogic scientists developed a blood test that can predict whether someone is at high risk for a heart attack, stroke, heart failure or if they are dying from one of these conditions within a four-year period. The test relies on the measurement of proteins in the blood – which has twice the accuracy of other risk scores. With this test, doctors can determine whether the patient needs additional medicines (i.e., cardioprotective drugs to lower risk), and/or whether they need to refine the strategy they are pursuing with this patient. And the beauty of this test is that it measures the individual’s proteins and thus the test is specific to that person versus a wide range of people – a truly precise medicine test/tool.
