In the new series, Too Large, now streaming on discovery+, viewers will meet seven individuals with dire cases of obesity whose journey to weight loss could mean the difference between life and death. Weighing between 400 and 800 pounds – and with oversized personalities to match – each of these people will meet with renowned bariatric surgeon Dr. Charles Procter as they attempt to lose weight and change their lives forever. Every episode will follow a new case, culminating in either the success or setback of their weight loss journey.

For example, in the premiere episode (now available on demand), viewers meet best friends Meghan and Vannessa. Despite their fun-loving energy and wit, both women are plagued by health problems. Weighing in at 496-lbs, Meghan is tired of living her life connected to an oxygen tank and wants to inspire Vannessa to join her in having bariatric surgery. However, at 440-lbs, Vannessa is not convinced looking at the intense diet and exercise changes they need to make in order to meet Dr. Procter’s weight loss requirements prior to the surgery. In the end, it takes more than a positive attitude and a sense of humor to push these women to save their own lives.

Previously featured as the medical expert on TLC's 1000-LB SISTERS and FAMILY BY THE TON, Dr. Charles Procter has over a decade of experience in bariatric surgery and general surgery. His success in robotic-assisted surgery has established him as one of the nation's top bariatric surgeons. Dr. Procter can discuss the cases featured on Too Large and the methods he uses to motivate his patients to weight loss. He can also offer helpful tips for those looking to lose weight, whether it’s a small amount or the first step in a significant weight loss journey.
