Marjaree Mason Center Helping Victims Of Domestic Violence

Marjaree Mason Center was established in 1979 in Fresno, California through the YWCA. Its mission is to help victims of domestic violence living in the central valley. It was named after a young woman, with a bright future ahead of her, who was violently killed by her ex-boyfriend in 1978.  The center provides emergency as well as long term shelter for adults and children fleeing a violent domestic environment. The center is now the largest in the state of California and one of the largest in the country. Our guest this week is the director of the center, Nicole Linder. Linder tells Lisa Casarez and Vikki Luna how calls to law enforcement for domestic violence in the central valley are 63% higher than the state average. Linder also shares the signs a person exhibits when they are in a domestic violence situation. Marjaree Mason Hot Line: (559) 233-HELP (4357) For more information on the center: www.mmcenter.org
