In J. Allen Hynek\u2019s 1972 book The UFO Experience: A Scientific Inquiry , UFO and extraterrestrial encounters were classified into 3 distinct categories. Beyond this original classification by the head of the Air Force\u2019s Project: Blue Book , other scientists following in Hynek\u2019s footsteps would later add an additional four categories. Within these additional classifications you have what are deemed \u201cClose Encounters of the Fourth Kind\u201d. These experiences are characterized by humans being physically abducted by extraterrestrials. Some scientists argue this category should also include experiences where the witness has their reality transformed. Perhaps a near perfect example of this type of encounter would be the events that took place in 1967 in the town of South Ashburnham, Massachusetts.
