45 How to Create a Mnemonic Story for Medical Procedures and Complicated Concepts

Published: Feb. 6, 2020, 5:45 p.m.
Duration: 24 minutes 5 seconds
The Story Method (aka Journey Method, Linking Method) in mnemonics is a strong tool for creating procedure-based or chronological associations between visual markers. It allows us to make sure a particular order is followed, a sequence is completed in order, or follow a flow of disease processes. When creating visual markers for our mnemonics, making associations between the main concept (anchor marker) and the subtopics (linking markers) can greatly increase our long term memory of how these terms and actions interact with one another.

In today’s episode, we will cover the Story Method in greater detail as well as how to create an anchor and linking markers for certain diseases. These stories, or dynamic visual interactions, can then also be placed in their associated memory palace for long term organization. However, this isn’t always needed. Sometimes simply adding a brief skit to a flashcard can also provide that added dual-coding that will help you in the long run.
