Sparks begin to fly as Rabbis Kivelevitz and Bechhofer begin to talk about whether new enjoyments and insights, particular to this period of enforced isolation and fear can be gained from delving into the unchanged text of the Siddur.Rabbi Kivelevitz casually presses Rabbi Bechhofer to expand on comments he has made on and off the air, first, how he is relishing his private Tefilos, second, that he doesn't believe that the prayers of our generation can really make the difference in ending the Corona Crisis.Rabbi Bechhofer stays true to his Litvak genes, and denies feeling any specific enjoyment while being satisfied that he can now say every word of Pesukei DaZimrah. Essentially he davens as he always has.He further adds that it is dangerous to give people the sense that their Tefillos can penetrate the Shaarei Shamayim and stave off suddenly an organic growing plague when death abounds.Responding from a completely different perspective,Rabbi Kivelevitz invokes the Chasam Sofer's description of the Siddur as Kodesh Kodeshim.Kivelevitz suggests that what Rav Sofer means is that the intensely private and unique Kavanos that are imbued into the words, form a direct guiding shaft for our soul to bond again with its Source.By its very nature, the intent of Tefilos must change in every stage of life we pass through, and while saying the same sentences, the true meaning will differ subtly from generation to generation.Kivelevitz shares three Corona inspired interpretations that he has dwelled on,even beyond the Zman Tefillah. These are the sections that are remarked uponHereHereHereRabbi Kivelevitz then claims unstintingly that every one should believe that his or her heart felt appeal might be the one, added to Klal Yisroel's ,which turn the tide, and lifts this scourge from us.Rabbi Bechhofer stays adamant that while Tefillah can bring spiritual change internally to the supplicant and reinforce and strengthen his connection to Kedusha, one must guard themselves from delusions that will backfire into depression. Please leave us a review or email us at ravkiv@gmail.comFor more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
