Crystal Eastman (1881-1928) was unrelenting in her fight for equality. When the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified in 1920, after years of fighting for the right of women to vote, she wrote: \u201cMen are saying perhaps \u2018Thank God, this everlasting fight is over!\u2019 But women, if I know them, are saying, \u2018Now at last we can begin.\u2019\u201d She understood that gaining the right to vote was the first step in something much bigger.
