Growing up on the island of Kuai, Malia was introduced to surfing at a very young age by her parents. In fact, they would often take turns watching baby Malia while the other surfed. She was on a board herself not long after. However, Malia\u2019s parents were laid back and never wanted to pursue competitive surfing.\xa0
