I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2165 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of Wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.\n\nToday we continue with a new wisdom segment called Wisdom Nuggets which will be published on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We will continue to post our extended series of messages I delivered at Putnam Congregational Church over the past couple of years on Tuesday and Thursday.\n\nToday\u2019s Wisdom Nugget is taken from the Book of Proverbs 1:8-19. I will read the passage first, and then we will dive in on the content. Let\u2019s begin.\n\nA Father\u2019s Exhortation: Acquire Wisdom\n\n8\xa0My child,\xa0listen when your father corrects you.\nDon\u2019t neglect your mother\u2019s instruction.\n9\xa0What you learn from them will crown you with grace\nand be a chain of honor around your neck.\n\n10\xa0My child, if sinners entice you,\nturn your back on them!\n11\xa0They may say, \u201cCome and join us.\nLet\u2019s hide and kill someone!\nJust for fun, let\u2019s ambush the innocent!\n12\xa0Let\u2019s swallow them alive, like the grave;\nlet\u2019s swallow them whole, like those who go down to the pit of death.\n13\xa0Think of the great things we\u2019ll get!\nWe\u2019ll fill our houses with all the stuff we take.\n14\xa0Come, throw in your lot with us;\nwe\u2019ll all share the loot.\u201d\n\n15\xa0My child, don\u2019t go along with them!\nStay far away from their paths.\n16\xa0They rush to commit evil deeds.\nThey hurry to commit murder.\n17\xa0If a bird sees a trap being set,\nit knows to stay away.\n18\xa0But these people set an ambush for themselves;\nthey are trying to get themselves killed.\n19\xa0Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money;\nit robs them of life.\n\nIn these verses, we witness a powerful contrast between the trek of wisdom, represented by the guidance of parents, and the trek of wickedness, portrayed by the enticement of sinners.\n\nThe passage begins with a tender plea from a parent to the child, emphasizing the value of listening and learning from the parent\u2019s correction and instruction. This parental advice is not meant to stifle or control but to instill wisdom and honor in the child.\n\nIn ancient times, the parent\u2019s teachings were highly esteemed. They were considered the custodians of practical knowledge, morals, and values. The instruction received from parents was like a crown of grace, adorning the child with wisdom and bestowing honor upon them.\n\nAs we move further into the passage, a stark warning emerges - a call to resist the allure of wickedness and the temptation to follow the ways of sinners. The enticement may come in various forms, trying to lure us away from the path of righteousness.\n\nThe sinners in this passage propose committing heinous acts, showing no regard for the sanctity of life.
