A sermon for Sunday, January 3, 2021, the 2nd Sunday after Christmas.
Based on 2 Timothy 3:14-4:8
Who are some people who taught you the most about life or faith? Maybe it is a parent. Maybe a boss, a teacher, or an AA sponsor. Someone who took an interest in you. Someone who invested in you, helped you become the person you are today. I look back on my brother and my parents for sure. I think about Carlos at McDonalds and Jane at Marcus Daly Hospice. I’m grateful to teachers and professors and wise members of congregations who took time for me. The Bible includes a relationship like this: the Apostle Paul and his protégé, Timothy. Please open your Bible to 2 Timothy 3, beginning at verse 14. Today I want to spend some time looking at what Paul says—and does—to mentor Timothy in the faith. I’ll leave you with 3 or4 takeaways to apply this teaching to life in 2021.
