In God's Name (2nd Commandment)

Published: Jan. 30, 2021, 11 p.m.

Hello, and welcome to the Will Preach for Food podcast. I’m Doug, the pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, based out of Shelton, Washington and a congregation of the ELCA. Faith is a beloved, inclusive community striving to grow closer to and more like Jesus, for the sake of the world. Thanks for making this podcast part of your day.

We’ve just begun a series on the Ten Commandments. So, whether the Ten Commandments makes you think of Charlton Heston, Mel Brooks, or Larry the Cucumber, please open your Small Catechism to the first part: The Ten Commandments. Today we are looking at #2: You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.  I’m going to lift up three ways we honor the second commandment: We SPEAK God’s name for worship. We BEAR God’s name in our very existence as people of Faith. We GLORIFY God’s name when we participate in God’s mission and purposes. There will be some takeaways, and there is a FAITH5 handout as well as Small Catechism resources available at our website, www.faithshelton.org.
