S02E02 - Occult with Will Hunter

This week we have Will Hunter from London occult bookstore Treadwell’s talking all things occult, pagan and esotericism. We start with In The Mouth of Madness (1994), John Carpenter’s third part to his unofficial Apocalypse trilogy and surely the best H.P. Lovecraft movie to date, leaving us questioning the nature of our own reality. Will completely opens our eyes to the real meaning and depth in Stanley Kubrick’s final film Eyes Wide Shut (1999) revealing that we weren’t all watching the same movie. Ben Wheatley cobbles together Get Carter (1971) meets Lovecraft by way of The Wicker Man (1973) in Kill List (2011), our third film of the week, and Will is clearly unimpressed with the random hodgepodge of occult elements involved. Also: Indescribable horror is shorthand for writer apathy. Vagina-faced tentacle monsters. Fiction impinging upon reality. “Diarrhea”. Final Space (2018). The Queen will eat your face. Christmas trees are Pagan. “Kubrick was a bastard.” Adam’s three wives. Shagfest 3000. “Crowley was a bellend.” True Detective. Freemasons are lovely. The banality of evil versus just banality. Cat heaven. The Wilhelm & the MacGuffin drinking game. We play a game of “Cult Sacrifice”.
