Close your eyes and the adventure… never quite begins in Dreamscape (1984), a potential influence on Netflix’ Stranger Things but more worth seeing for Max Von Sydow vs. Christopher Plummer. Writer Chuck Russell then goes on to direct A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) with its excellent practical effects and ironic murder scenes. Next we have the visual tableau of Tarsem Singh’s The Cell (2000) with its music video aesthetic, incredible costume design and Silence of the Lambs rip-off plot spliced with Dreamscape. We finish with Ink (2009), a surprising low-budget production and the only one this week not to feature a nightmare snake, but so good Joe named his cat after it. Although it has problems that need taken into account we reckon it's worth the detour. Also: #PERL makes her presence known as we’re without a cat wrangler this week. Dee asks what won’t the government turn into a secret assassination program. We settle Nature vs. Nurture once and for all. Dee isn’t impressed by Jennifer Lopez in wedges. Joe knows far too much about serial killers. We work out what films we’re happy falling asleep to. Catbug! We play a game of “Dream Logic” and Joe comes up with a game of his own in Nerd Rage.
