  1. What two things does James say in Chapter 1 that influence our understanding of this passage?
  2. Take some time this week to consider whether your tongue leans towards sweet or sour. Use the various things James says about the tongue for your reflection. Write them down as you listen to the sermon.
  3. James warns us about the dangers of a sour tongue. It seems hardly necessary. And at first glance, he leaves little hope for sweetening. However, a closer reading of the text offers us some hope. What did you hear that gives you hope?
