The other night I was coaching Anna's softball team. Our middle school girls were in the field. As I looked out, I noticed that the left fielder was way out of position. I kept trying to get her attention, to tell her to move to her right. I started waving my arms in the direction I wanted her to move. But she wasn't paying attention. Our other coach started waving his arms as well. Pretty soon, parents joined in. There was a whole chorus of waving arms. Everyone at the game knew what the left fielder should do...except the left fielder. Needless to say, we weren't on the same page. I mention that story because I think a lot of marriages struggle with not being on the same page. In Ephesians 6, the Apostle Paul paints a beautiful picture of a marriage. But then, surprisingly, he tells us that the reason for unity in marriage is so much bigger than merely having a happy marriage. Paul tells us that marriage is a cosmic mystery. On Sunday, we're going to dig into the scriptures and unravel some of this mystery. I'm excited to preach this text.
