I'm not an avid Star Wars fan. As a kid, however, I did love the Star Wars movies. So, I was really excited when, in 1999, George Lucas released Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. I was eager to hear another story from another universe - a story about protagonists overcoming the barriers of evil. There was one problem: this character named, "Jar Jar Binks." At best, he was a minor support character meant to bring in quirky comic relief. But the director kept confusing this bizarre little character for the main character in the story. If you've seen the movie, you know that, at some point, you end up saying: "Alright! Enough Jar-Jar!" Sometimes, I think that people do the same thing with the Bible. We try to make ourselves the main character in the story. We fight to make ourselves prominent in the story. And, we fight to make God part of our supporting staff. If Acts chapter 2 teaches us anything, it teaches us that God's story is about God. When the Holy Spirit comes, He shows us God's plan in God's story. And in focusing on God's story, we get to see God's plan includes us. And when we gladly take our role, we find ultimate fulfillment in "What God Wants" for us.
