Quintessential King (John 19:17-27

Everyone is looking for the perfect leader. These days, if you listen to a lot of talk show hosts, you will discover that Ronald Reagan was the perfect leader. Every Republican presidential candidate tries to channel their "inner Reagan." I have even heard some Democrats compare themselves to Reagan. Apparently, Ronald Reagan could do no wrong. He was the quintessential president. He was perfect. Now, I hope you understand that I'm being facetious. Ronald Reagan may or may not have been a great president. The judgment is often subject to personal political views. But, what I mean to illustrate is that every one of us desires to follow a great leader. We're even willing to overlook faults to find one. If you're a follower of Jesus, please understand that you no longer have to search for a great leader. You already have one. Jesus is the quintessential leader. The best part is, you don't even have to overlook any faults to view Him this way. He lead perfectly. This middle section of John is one of the most well-known parts of the Bible. We all know that Jesus died on a cross. But, as he recounts this event, the Apostle John is doing more than just recording history. He's letting us know that Jesus wasn't any ordinary leader. His kingly sacrifice proves something more. On Sunday, we're going to look at the crucifixion of Jesus. As you prepare, I encourage you to read over John 19:16-27, and ask God to prepare your heart to understand this most important event. As always, I can't wait to see you Sunday, P. Dave
