As a follower of Christ, who also happens to be an American, one of the most difficult concepts to grasp is the biblical concept of the "Kingdom." I constantly have to remind myself that my priorities lie in a Kingdom that it is not of this world - the Kingdom of Christ. I so often think of myself as an American, as an Iowan, or even as a Waukee Warrior. But something beautiful happens when I pray the phrase: "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven." As I dwell on those words, I am pulled back to the reality that, while I am a citizen of Dallas County (which affords certain responsibilities and privileges), I am primarily a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus is my king. As followers of Jesus, those words are very "centering." They keep us focused on the things that really matter - the things of God. This Sunday, we kept diving into the Lord's Prayer. And, as we did, I prayed that all of our hearts would be made steadfastly dependent upon God - learning to pray as citizens of a Heavenly Kingdom.
