Colorless Purple

I am one of those guys who seems to dig proverbial holes for himself. And then I seem to think I can dig myself out of them. My poor wife is so patient with me. Most of the time, instead of getting offended or mad, she just laughs at me as I stumble over my words and try to figure out some way to talk myself out of the mess I've just created. Sometimes I just have to throw up my hands and say, "I quit." Words are powerful. That's why I find it so easy to dig that proverbial hole. Usually words are powerful because words often reflect what is in our heart. At one point or another, all of us have been hurt by words. When that happens we usually think, "How could that persons say those words? I had no idea what was inside them." In James 3, the author tells us that the tongue of a person reflects what's inside that person. How can hurtful words come out of a righteous heart? It just doesn't seem to match. Its like salt water coming out a fresh water spring. Its like a grapevine producing figs. Its like a colorless purple. It doesn't make sense. This Sunday, we are going to see what James tells us about "the tongue." We are going to talk about what to do when hurtful words are flung our way. And we are going to see how God wants us to use our tongues to reflect the perfect glory of Christ in our lives. I can't wait to see you Sunday, P.Dave
