And It Was Night... (John 13:18-30)

"And it was night." Those are the final words of this week's scripture passage. Jesus had just predicated Judas' betrayal. Judas walked out on the twelve. Satan entered into Judas. "And it was night." (Verse 30) When I read this week's passage, I feel the weight of what John was saying. It seems that, at that moment, darkness ruled and all was about to be lost. The author, John, wanted us to feel the weightiness of the situation. It's a dark part of the story. But all was not lost. Just a few verses later, Jesus was able to say: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me." (14:1) And, a few verses prior to this dark moment, Jesus said: "I know those whom I've chosen." (13:18) You see, in the midst of a dark story, we see God doing something incredible. He was working out His story of grace. And, in the midst of a really dark chapter in Jesus' life, God challenged us to ask good questions about ourselves. Because, "Who wants to end up like Judas?" It's not exactly on the top 100 list of baby names. On Sunday, I can't wait to see you. I can't wait to jump back into the Gospel of John. And, I can't wait to see how God's Spirit challenges each one of us. P.Dave
