The story was told of a teacher recounting the hardships of the Pilgrims during their first winter. In the midst of her description concerning the starving conditions, one of the first-graders raised her hand and said, “I wish my mommy had been there. She always knows just what to do." This mother of a king knew what to do when it comes to doing what is best for the people of his kingdom. Now we are not kings, but as followers of Christ we are “a royal priesthood” and “a holy nation” that can influence others by our selfless and sacrificial living. We can be an advocate for others because we know the One who became our Advocate by giving Himself for us. This Sunday, we are beginning a new series on the book of Proverbs.
