Around 3:30 am on December 31, 1989, 11-year-old Collier Landry was woken up by the sound of his parents, Noreen and Jack Boyle, talking loudly in his mother\u2019s bedroom. He heard a high-pitch scream from his three-year-old sister.\xa0A few minutes later, he heard a thud and, soon after, a louder thud.\nCollier immediately thought something was wrong with his mother. He got out of bed and looked in Noreen\u2019s room, but it was pitch black. He was scared, so he went back to his room.\nA few minutes later, he heard Jack\u2019s footsteps coming down the hallway. He closed his eyes and fell back asleep until around 8:30 am. The first thing he did was run to his mother\u2019s room. But she wasn\u2019t there.\nCollier went downstairs and saw his father talking to his grandmother. He asked where his mother was, and Jack responded, \u201cWell, mommy took a little vacation, Collier.\u201d\nCollier didn\u2019t believe his father. He knew his mother would never leave him or his sister, and he dug for answers.
