GLEN SPEY AUTHOR HONORED AT HOLLYWOOD AWARDS GALA Featured in New Release Glen Spey, New York author T.J. Knight is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest and was honored along with eleven other winning writers and twelve winning artists at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California on April 28th. His story, "The Fall of Crodendra M," is illustrated by Chris Arias of Cartago, Costa Rica who is himself a winner of the Illustrators of the Future Contest. The story and illustration along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art are published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 39 which was officially released on May 16th. T. J. Knight is the pen name for a regular dude who lives in New York (upstate, not city) surrounded by oaks and pines, deer and turkeys, a cat, son, wife, and on holidays, a daughter. He makes soap, bakes too many paleo brownies, reads, runs, and writes. His favorite authors are K. L. Going, Laini Taylor, and John Steakley. While this may seem an eclectic group, he reads more for style than content. And oh, the style! You can find his flash-length works in Every Day Fiction and Daily Science Fiction. His longer works appear in Future Finalists Publishing\u2019s Starlight series where he served as editor for volume two. In his story, \u201cThe Fall of Crodendra M\u201d T. J. attempts to highlight the drawbacks of our evolving hyper-individualism. Technology allows us to remain home and watch weddings, graduations, and funerals on screens. This quickly went from unheard of to accepted, perhaps with normal coming soon. So as more and more of our entertainment is streamed into our living rooms (be it from space or otherwise), this story explores the meaning of actually visiting a friend or loved one instead. The Contest, one of the most prestigious writing and illustrating competitions in the world, is currently in its 40th year and is judged by some of the premier names in speculative fiction. The Writers of the Future Contest judges include, Tim Powers (author of On Stranger Tides), Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert (Dune prequel series), Robert J. Sawyer (Quantum Night), Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn series, The Stormlight Archive), Larry Niven (Ringworld), Orson Scott Card (Ender\u2019s Game), Nnedi Okorafor (Who Fears Death), David Farland (Runelords), and Katherine Kurtz (Deryni series) to name a few. The Illustrators of the Future Contest judges include, Bob Eggleton (11 Chesley Awards and 7 Hugo Awards), Larry Elmore (Dungeons & Dragons book covers), Echo Chernik (graphic designs for major corporations including Celestial Seasonings tea packaging), Rob Prior (art for Spawn, Heavy Metal comics and Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ciruelo (Eragon Coloring Book).
