Published: Dec. 16, 2020, 10 a.m.

Some of our guests are high profile. Others choose to dwell simply here on Block Island, doing their thing and keepin’ it real.

Jon Damm falls in to the later category. He’s a year-round resident who has also has Rose blood in him. He first came to Block Island in 1956 and lived in a house his family constructed by salvaging a portion of the old rail station that used to exist up the Neck. The house didn’t have electricity but that didn’t bother Jon. Neither did lack of telephone service which didn’t arrive until the 1970’s.

One of the things Jon learned early was how to fish. The ponds of Block Island yield a bounty of White Perch which Jon could feed a small family with given an hour with his trusty rod and reel. Jon’s also a hunter although he sticks to the sometimes elusive “two-legged female deer”.

Jon’s the definition of a hard-workin’ guy. But he does get to kick back every now and then. And while he’s had his mind blown at a Jimi Hendrix concert but nothing compares to the thrill of the auto races.

Cars and motorcycles have always been a big thing for Jon. We go DEEP into his love of all things that make loud noises and go fast!

All this and a wonderful story about the best pet/friend a guy could ever ask for...
