Beechworth Asylum, also known as MayDay Hills Asylum is a place in Victoria, Australia, is now a uber plush hotel, but back in the day, was built by prisoners, for prisoners, and operated as a mental asylum (you know.. for 'lunatics'...) from1867-1995. During it's 128 years of operation, out of 1200 patients that were admitted, some 9000 people died.
