And when we relate to ourselves this way \u2013 as objects \u2013 we run the risk of reducing everything and everyone to an object in our own image. It\u2019s this way of \u2018flattening\u2019 ourselves and life that can most easily be undone when we open ourselves to the way of being of the non-human world \u2013 an invitation beautifully made in this episode by Howard Nemerov\u2019s poem \u2018Trees\u2019.
