\n'Imagination is everything', we were once taught by a teacher of ours. And so in this episode we take up the imaginative possibilities of play and laughter, wondering together what possibilities can come from holding the 'darkness and vulnerability in the heart of everything' alongside the joyful, expansive possibilities of play. Along the way we laugh a lot, imagine what it would be to welcome the joy of others, and consider how 'authenticity' always involves some measure of playfully cultivating what's been so far marginalised or not included.\xa0

\nKnowing Now You\u2019ll Never Be a Clown
\n
\n\n\nBut if you were, and if your grin\nwere painted red as a Coke can, a fire\nengine, red as the Tabasco sauce\nyou spilled on your mother\u2019s carpet, and\nif it lifted itself from the inside of one huge ear\nto the other, and if your nose were a ping\npong ball almost begging for a swipe, and if\nyour feet slept within white shoes, three feet long\nand flapping, would you be able then to talk\nto everything you really want to talk to: the\nchickadees who come closer than your nieces,\nthat piece of paper blown across your lawn,\nthe rain, each nudge of green in your garden?\nAnd when you put on your coat, that U.N.\nof colors and scraps, that coat that would\nmake Joseph feel he had folded himself\ninto the pages of GQ, the one with the shoulders\nrolling up to your cheeks, with buttons the size\nof pancakes, and a hem like the border of\nCzechoslovakia, would you want to walk\ninto church, quietly take your place with\nthe choir and just as the minister finishes\nthe benediction, honk your horn?\xa0\nAnd\nwhen you put on your polka dotted tie, wide\nas a summer afternoon, would you\nwant to pin the squirting yellow daisy\non your lapel, sit in the business meeting,\nand after the ayes have it, squeeze\nthe rubber bulb in your pocket?\xa0\nThen\nagain, maybe you would just stay home,\nlisten to jazz, the blues, or some swing,\nopen each of your cupboards and talk\nabout Tuesday or the way the light falls\nacross the counters, invite Lou Jacobs,\nEmmett Kelly, Felix Adler, Otto Griebling,\nhell, the whole clown alley, rent a calliope,\na center ring, one elephant, and get out the pies.\n\n
