Published: June 7, 2020, 1:20 p.m.

\nAll the ways we try to protect ourselves from life by hardening our hearts, how this leads us to misunderstand love in ways that strangles the aliveness that's in ourselves and in others, and what we might do to exercise proper responsibility in how we care for each other. A conversation about our power to either recognise or smother the beauty in people, with Lizzie Winn and Justin Wise of Thirdspace.

\nHow to Kill a Living Thing
\nNeglect it
\nCriticise it to its face
\nSay how it kills the light
\nTraps all the rubbish
\nBores you with its green
\n
\nContinually
\nHarden your heart
\nThen
\nCut it down close
\nTo the root as possible
\n
\nForget it
\nFor a week or a month
\nReturn with an axe
\nSplit it with one blow
\nInsert a stone
\nTo keep the wound wide open.
