136: The Jewel at the Heart of the Stone

Published: May 10, 2020, 11:34 a.m.

\nWhen big change comes upon us, we can at first devote a great deal of our hearts' energy to a fight with the change - which often does nothing to help us. But our hearts are equally capable of something else - a turn towards bigger questions, and to the possibility that the change might be inviting us into a deeper relationship with life. Hidden here might be 'the jewel at the heart of the stone'. A conversation about depth, intimacy with life, and the life-giving, difficult work of responding to change, with Lizzie Winn and Justin Wise of Thirdspace.

\nFighting The Instrument
\n
\nOften the instruments of change
\nare not kind or just
\nand the hardest openness
\nof all might be
\nto embrace the change
\nwhile not wasting your heart
\nfighting the instrument.
\n
\nThe storm is not as important
\nas the path it opens.
\nThe mistreatment in one life
\nnever as crucial as the clearing
\nit makes in your heart.
\n
\nThis is very difficult to accept.
\nThe hammer or cruel one
\nis always short-lived
\ncompared to the jewel
\nin the center of the stone.
