Twenty-four hundred years ago the Olmecs and several other Mesoamerican tribes who later became the Maya, began to develop an astronomical calendar that eventually reached back to August 11, 3114 B.C., and stopped on December 21, 2012, A.D, the end of the Fifth World Age. Perhaps the most intense sky watchers of all time, these people were looking for a cosmic point of stillness that would be the hub of all creation. They found that point of stillness at the center of the Milky Way.
