At the domestic box office it went on to gross around 850 million in today\u2019s dollars, second only to \u2018Snow White\u2019 (1937) in this particular ranking (animated domestic grosses, adjusted for inflation). It would inspire several spin-off films and an animated series, and was based on a popular children\u2019s novel by Dodie Smith.
