The Place of Pressing

The word Gethsemane literally means \u201cthe place of pressing oils\u201d. In this sense, there was a \u201cGat-Shemanim\u201d in every olive grove. It was here that Jesus struggled with the weight of what lay ahead of him. Like the olives crushed by the weight of heavy stones to extract their oil, Jesus was crushed by burden of the cross to the point of sweating blood. However, as olive oil in the Bible is a sign of abundance, blessing and the presence of the Spirit, so too will be the fruit of Jesus\u2019 obedience
