Today on The Neil Haley Show, join Neil Haley as he interviews Bob Newton.\n\nRobert Lee Newton\xa0(born August 16, 1949) is a former\xa0American football\xa0guard\xa0in the\xa0National Football League\xa0(NFL) from 1971 to 1981. Newton was voted most improved player his junior year and "most valuable lineman" and All-League defensive tackle his senior year at\xa0John Glenn High School.[2] Newton played for the\xa0Chicago Bears\xa0from 1971 to 1975 and with Pro Football Hall of Fame players\xa0Dick Butkus,\xa0Gale Sayers\xa0and\xa0Walter Payton. He played for the\xa0Seattle Seahawks\xa0from 1976 to 1981 with Hall of Famer\xa0Steve Largent. Newton was on the 1976\xa0Seattle Seahawks\xa0expansion team that got the franchise started. He was a third round draft selection of the Chicago Bears and was moved from offensive tackle to guard his rookie year. He was named 1980 Seahawks\xa0Lineman\xa0of the Year. In 1983, Newton had brief playing experiences with the\xa0Boston Breakers\xa0and\xa0Chicago Blitz\xa0of the\xa0USFL, but his chemical dependency illness forced him to leave both teams.[2]
