Winston Peters says a trans-Tasman bubble is almost ready to go, once Jacinda Ardern and Scott Morrison sign off on it.
Australian media's reporting some form of travel between Australia and New Zealand could be permitted within the next few weeks.
Jacinda Ardern says a bubble is definitely possible before Christmas.
The Foreign Minister told Mike Hosking a lot of the legwork has been done, and the two governments just need some final assurances from each other.
He says it's now up to both leaders to meet and sign off on a date.
"We need to hear from our Prime Minister or Scott Morrison to tell us the latest timetable."
