A new report from the Education Review Office has found that less than half of year eight students are meeting expectation in maths.\xa0

It\u2019s also found that nearly a quarter of new primary school teachers feel unqualified to teach the subject.\xa0

Ruth Shinoda, Head of the Education Evaluation Centre, told Mike Hosking that the country\u2019s maths level has been on the decline for the last twenty years.\xa0

She said that the report captures and shares the good teaching practices as well as the bad, so they can be implemented by more educators.\xa0
