In an interview recorded last month with Swiss broadcaster RSI, Pope Francis said that Ukraine should have the courage of \u201cthe white flag\u201d and negotiate an end to the war with Russia.\xa0

The Vatican was forced to backtrack yesterday, urging Moscow to halt what the Secretary of State called \u201can unjust invasion\u201d.\xa0

Italy Correspondent Jo McKenna told Mike Hosking that today the Russian Embassy to the Holy See was flying its flag supporting the Pope on the 11th anniversary of his election.\xa0

She said they described him as the true defender of humanism, peace, and traditional values.\xa0
