The AA is calling for the New Zealand Police to change its approach to drink driving.
Road deaths involving alcohol have increased in the last five years, while breath testing numbers have decreased.
AA road safety spokesman Dylan Thomsen told Mike Hosking police are taking a more targeted approach, rather than focusing on mass testing.
He says that approach needs to change.
"The approach we've been taking obviously hasn't been giving us the results we want, so let's go back to where we were and have those deaths coming down."
