The Government's increasing the minimum wage by 2% to $23.15 an hour from April.\xa0

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke Van Velden had recommended a rise of just 1.3%. \xa0

Victoria University School of Governance and Policy Studies senior research fellow Dr Michael Fletcher told Mike Hosking that at a minimum, it should rise at the same rate as inflation.\xa0

Inflation is currently sitting at\xa04.7%. \xa0

He says the Government says beneficiaries should get increases in line with the Consumer Price Index, so the lowest paid workers should get the same. \xa0
