Thriving Relationship in COVID (0:00:00)
The amount of celebrity divorces this year has been astounding. But thanks to COVID, many people can relate to marriage struggles in a time of stress, uncertainty, and restlessness working from home. The pandemic has taken its toll on people’s well-being, safety, mental health, and so much more. So how can we manage everything going on in the months ahead and create a relationship that’s stronger than ever. Here to talk with us today is Dr. Diana Wiley. Dr. Diana has practiced for more than thirty years as a licensed marriage and family therapist, a board-certified sex therapist, and a gerontologist. She also just recently released her book Love in the Time of Corona which can be found on Amazon.

Autonomy while Living with Parents (0:21:54)
Moving out of your parents’ house is one of the biggest milestones of your young adult years. But with the pandemic changing most of our plans, some of us are returning back to our childhood homes, not knowing when we’ll be moving out again. Even though moving back in with your parents can be tough, it doesn’t have to mean a complete loss of autonomy. In fact, keeping your freedom might be easier than we think, even while living with mom and dad. Here to tell us a little bit about what we can do to make our moving in experience better is sociology professor Deborah Carr.

One Step Further (0:52:46)
Here on The Lisa Show, we love celebrating people’s accomplishments, especially when they impact the lives of others. Today, we are doing just that with our next guest, Joylette Hylick. Joylette is the daughter of Katherine Johnson-- National Geographic Kids and ‘Hidden Figures’ hero—whose life and accomplishments in the STEM field are highlighted in her autobiographical picture book One Step Further: My Story of Math, the Moon, and a Lifelong Mission. Joylette is here to tell us about her mother’s accomplishments, legacy and influence breaking down gender and racial barriers so that her daughters and millions of young women could “reach for the stars” like she did.

Financially Supporting Adult Children (1:05:28)
It’s no secret that raising a child is expensive. The USDA estimates that a couple will spend a little over $12,000 annually per child in a middle-income home. But what happens when they move out of the house? Unfortunately, they don’t suddenly become financially independent as soon as they turn 18. So, what do you do? Some financial experts say that parents should budget anywhere from $9,000 to $13,000 for a college student’s first year of college. Here to help us know how much we should be financially supporting our adult kids is financial expert and founder of Mitlin Financial, Lawrence Sprung.

2021 Best Cars (1:26:08)
Buying a new car is a really satisfying experience. But as great as getting a new car is, deciding which car is right for you can be grueling, especially when there are so many options. Obviously, you want something reliable with good gas mileage. But what about four-wheel drive, seat heaters and a rearview backup camera? And when the car salesperson tells you it’s ok to fudge your budget a little... do you listen? Well to help cut through the noise and narrow down your search, we’ve invited Jamie Deaton, executive editor of U.S News Best Cars and friend of the show, to speak with us this morning about the 2021 Best Car Brand Awards.
