School after 50 (0:00:00)

For those who are middle-aged and didn’t finish college because life had other plans for you, chances are you’ve thought about going back. You might be afraid of being the oldest one in all your classes or having to form study groups with high school graduates. But you will be comforted to know that 7.4 million students in colleges and universities across the U.S. are 25 years or older. Here to help us overcome our initial skepticism of going back to school as adults is Dr. Laurie Quinn, interim president at Champlain College in Vermont. She’s here to talk about why so many adults are going back to college and the pros and cons of doing so.

Black History Month (0:15:31)

In school, we all learned about George Washington, JFK, and Susan B Anthony. But did you learn about Claudette Colvin, Crispus Attucks, or Maya Angelou? Black history in the context of American history is often forgotten. But, as Americans, it’s important to remember that African American history is American history. Here to talk about the importance of Black History Month is Jeanetta Williams, president of the Salt Lake City chapter of the NAACP.

Lies We Tell Our Kids (0:32:59)

Do any of these lies sound familiar? Vegetables give you superpowers. The internet turns off at 8pm. Gum will stay in your stomach for 7 years if you swallow it. Drinking caffeine will stunt your growth. As parents, sometimes we tell our kids little white lies in hopes that they’ll behave. But sometimes I wonder if this is the right parenting move. Here to talk about the potential benefits and harms of lying to our children is friend of the show Carrie Ann Rhodes.

Effects of Online Dating (0:50:36)

I don’t think that anyone will disagree with me when I say that dating today looks different than it used to. In the days before the internet, you would ask out the girl or boy in your social studies class or your friends would set you up. Nowadays, it’s all about the swiping and matching online. So, what effects have these dating apps really had on the dating landscape? To find out, we invited celebrity matchmaker Carmelia Ray to tell us about the changes she’s seen in her almost 30 years of working in the dating industry.

Ultra Running (1:07:12)

You’ve heard of half marathons and marathons… but have you heard of Ultra marathons? They’re just as intense as they sound. Ultra-marathons are races that are any distance longer than a regular 26.2-mile marathon. The people who run these races are seemingly superhuman. We wanted to know more about these amazing runners and extreme marathons, so we invited Paul Ronto from Run Repeat who collaborated on a study of ultra-marathons.

Energy-Saving Gadgets (1:24:32)
Do you ever look around your house and realize just how much energy you use up? The average US household has about 65 devices always drawing power even when they’re turned off, and the U.S. spends $19 billion on this vampire power. Reducing the amount of energy your household consumes can save money and the environment. Luckily, it can be as simple as switching out some electronics. Here to tell us what technology we can incorporate into our homes that will help us save money and power is Suzanne Kantra. Suzanne is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Techlicious.com.
