Syria rained down rockets on Israel from the Golan Heights for many years. During the 1967 Six-day War, Israel fought valiantly to capture the Golan from Syria. Israel annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, but only yesterday, in an historic move, did the United States recognize the territory as belonging to Israel.
