The idea for \u201cI Second That Emotion\u201d came to Smokey and his cowriter friend Al Cleveland when they were Christmas shopping. When replying to a salesperson's comment, instead of saying \u201cI second that motion,\u201d Cleveland responded, \u201cI second that emotion.\u201d The malapropism gave the men a good laugh \u2014 and the lyrics to this 1967 Grammy-nominated song.
