Cinema Craptaculus 032: "Bright"

It's present day Los Angeles and the fantasy elements of D&D are reality.
Using a social metaphor that revels in the obvious, 3 species live in a tenuous peace: The downtrodden Orcs. The Doing-OK Humans. And the rich-ass Elves. There are also Fairies, but they don't talk, so maybe they're more like animals? WHO KNOWS? WE'RE JUST GOING TO IGNORE THAT.

Police Officer Ward, played with throwback enthusiasm by Will Smith, is partnered with the strongly disliked (and wholly incompetent) Orc cop, Nick Jakoby. It can't be stated enough how much everybody hates Nick. His people think he's turned on them, the cops don't trust him, and no one wants to see him succeed. And Nick's biggest detractor? His partner Ward of course.

When on patrol, they come across a wand - which is this world's version of a WMD. Every faction in LA comes after them to get its power. The Elves, the Orcs, the Dirty Cops, the gangs and even The Department of Magic (or whatever) which is like the FBI but, you know\u2026 with magic.

It's important to know (and we know it's important because the movie opens with text to inform us): Only a Bright can handle a wand. So if you're not a Bright, the wand will turn you into dust.

Will this LEO odd couple be able to survive their longest night as they try to do the right thing? Will you care after the 150th time someone tells Ward not to trust Jakoby for no real reason at all?
