TikTok Tackles UMG Tantrum or SiriusXM: No Plan After Howard Stern (ep.329)

Variety reports: The months-long standoff between Universal Music Group and TikTok over royalty payments and AI policies is finally over, at least for the time being, with the announcement that the two entities have struck a deal to bring the label\u2019s music back on the platform.

As part of the agreement, the companies stated that they will \u201cdeliver improved remuneration for UMG\u2019s songwriters and artists, new promotional and engagement opportunities for their recordings and songs and industry-leading protections with respect to generative AI.\u201d

UMG\u2019s music will return to the platform imminently, and the companies will collaborate on realizing \u201cnew monetization opportunities utilizing TikTok\u2019s growing e-commerce capabilities and will work together on campaigns supporting UMG\u2019s artists across genres and territories globally.\u201d

Inside Radio reports: Nearly two decades after Howard Stern bolted for satellite radio, the now 70-year-old radio host\u2019s future is up in air. His contract with SiriusXM is set to expire next year, and Stern has made noise about retiring. Whether then or in the future, President and Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein says SiriusXM is better prepared to withstand the impact than ever before as it has added several big-named talents to its radio and podcast lineups.
