Jesus Enters Jerusalem

In this message we look at Mark 11:1-11 and Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. This is the beginning of the end of Mark’s Gospel and Jesus’ life and ministry. By selecting an unbroken foal of a donkey to ride into Jerusalem, Jesus is teaching us three things about His Messianic identity and the Kingdom of God prophesied in Zechariah 9. First, He shows us that He fulfills God’s plan. All the prophecies and promises of the Old Testament find their fulfillment in Him. Second, we see that the Messiah comes in humility. Instead of a triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Jesus comes “humble, riding on a donkey.” This gives us insight into the kind of King He is and it’s not what anyone expected. Third, we see that the Messiah brings peace. Zechariah’s prophecy tells us that the King brings peace for the nations and freedom for the prisoners. This is what Jesus accomplishes through His death and resurrection.
