(S2, EP 12) For this week's episode of The Banh Mi Chronicles Podcast centering on the theme "1975", Lao American writer and playwright Saymoukda Vongsay aka "Refugenius" joins in as a guest and shares her family's migration journey from Laos to Minnesota after the Laos Civil War.  She shares  her experience growing up with the Lao community in Minnesota, the process of finding her voice through spoken word / poetry, and creating plays centered on the Lao experience in the theatre community.  She recently received a large grant from the Mellon fund that will fund her work as a full-time playwright.  In this episode, she also reads one of her personal poems.  You won't want to miss this memorable episode!

She\u2019s a recipient of a Sally Award for Initiative from the Ordway Center for Performing Arts which \u201crecognizes bold new steps and strategic leadership undertaken by an individual...in creating projects or artistic programs never before seen in Minnesota that will have a significant impact on strengthening Minnesota\u2019s artistic/cultural community.\u201d Her plays have been presented by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, Theater Mu, and elsewhere.
