If you are ever accused of a crime of any kind, an investigation that is thorough, objective, and fair is one of the most important protections\xa0we have against a wrongful conviction. Ethical codes require that investigations be based on principles of honesty and impartiality.\xa0The "Start\xa0By\xa0Believing" campaign,\xa0however,\xa0trains investigators to begin an investigation by presuming the guilt of the accused.\xa0\u201cStart\xa0By\xa0Believing\u201d\xa0programs consistently use the guilt-presuming word "victim," not "complainant."\xa0The\xa0\u201cpresumption of innocence\u201d has been eroded over time but it must be restored if we are to restore our Republic. Liberty\xa0can not\xa0survive in a nation where the burden of proof doesn\u2019t fall on the Accuser rather than the Accused.\xa0Renee Jolly, parent of a son who was falsely accused by a female student, and wrongfully expelled from his University, will join me to discuss\xa0what her son is going through, and how Betsy DeVos' proposed regulations will make a difference.
