Talk Midsommar To Me
Midsommar is a weird movie. Sometimes it feels like a slasher film that isn't concerned about the actual slashing. Other times it doesn't feel like horror at all, the beautiful daylit scenes not conforming to traditions of the genre. But, coming from the writer-director of Hereditary, Luke and Rachel knew Midsommar might be somewhat strange and unsatisfying, yet they were nonetheless excited to see if it would be a filmmaking evolution for Ari Aster or more of a sophomore slump (not knowing the real answer would be something completely different).
