Beloved: Gospel of John
Authentic Fruit: Pastor Michael Dascoli
March 29, 2020

Please turn in your Bibles to Matthew 6:25-34

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” Matthew 6:25

5 Things Jesus Says About Worry.

1: Worry is Unreasonable (V 25)

Question: Is not life more important than the things we tend to worry about?

2. Worry is Unnatural (V 26)

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Question: Are you not much more valuable than birds?

“An anxious heart weighs a man down.
Proverbs 12:25

3. Worry is Unhelpful (V 27)

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

Question: Can worry add a single hour to your life?

4. Worry is Unnecessary (V 28)

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

Question: Will God not clothe you?

5. Worry is Unbecoming (V 31)
“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.”

Question: How are we any different from those who have no faith?

THE ANTIDOTE FOR WORRY:

#1: Put Christ first in every area of my life (V 32)

“…your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first His kingdom
and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

#2. Practice taking things one day at a time (V 34)

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

#3. Place things beyond your control in God’s hands (1Peter 5:7):

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. NLT

Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t God,
who gave us Christ, also give us everything else? Romans 8:32 NLT

What is God’s Spirit saying to you?
How must you respond?
