Nobody drank in Dylan\u2019s immediate family, though alcoholism had wreaked havoc in prior generations of the family.\xa0 And while nobody drank, Dylan\u2019s mother was in recovery for substance abuse.\xa0 Though Dylan could swear she never actually abused drugs.\xa0 His father, however, was emotionally inaccessible.\xa0 All of this leads Dylan to believe his parents were so damaged by other relatives\u2019 addictions they never learned, or couldn\u2019t grasp, how to act any differently than people who were addicts.
